Strus is proving that he’s not just a spot-up shooter, as he’s dishing 3.9 dimes, grabbing 5.6 rebounds and contributing in the defensive categories. ![]() Cleveland paid him a lot of money to come in, start and provide spacing to the offense. He showed in Miami that he could shoot from downtown and he was athletic enough to finish strong at the rim after attacking closeouts. Max Strus, CLE - PR: 141, CR: 56 - I thought Strus was being undervalued in the offseason, and I didn’t understand why. Bey is rostered on 48% of Yahoo teams and should be picked up if available. UPDATE: It was reported on Sunday that Johnson will miss 4-to-6 weeks with a wrist injury. I wouldn’t expect that kind of prowess all season, but the 1.1 steals, 1.0 block, 7.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists seem pretty real. After shooting sub-30% from downtown in his first two seasons, Johnson is converting a robust 42% from beyond the arc. Many presumed that Saddiq Bey would be the guy, and he was for a few games, but Johnson quickly took over, and he’s been ballin’ ever since. Jalen Johnson, ATL – PR: 90, CR: 45 - With John Collins sent to Utah, the power forward position was up for grabs in the offseason. That said, he should continue to be valuable as long as he’s healthy. There was no way he could replicate that season, right? Buehler? The minutes and scoring have ticked down this season but the blocks have gone up - to 2.9! Defensive stats are so volatile, so I wouldn’t count on Lopez maintaining this pace. He then proceeded to put up a Top 25 season, averaging 30.4 minutes, 15.9 points, 1.7 treys, 6.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks. I’m skeptical that he maintains these gains all season.īrook Lopez, MIL - PR: 78, CR: 27 - Last season, Lopez turned out to be a screaming value due to preseason concerns about his back injury and elevated age. He didn’t exceed 0.8 in his first two seasons. The steals are at 2.0, the first time over 1.7, but it’s the 1.5 blocks per game that have massively boosted his value. Jones is shooting 35% from downtown, after posting 33% marks in his first two seasons. Most of the gains are from increased field goal percentage and a massive spike in blocks. The usage rate hasn’t changed, though, and neither has the volume. He’s averaging 1.5 more minutes than last season with 1.7 more points. Herb Jones, NO - PR: 121, CR: 26 - Jones is a Top 25 player on a per-game basis so far this season. The environment in Charlotte is a fantasy-friendly one, as the Hornets play fast and have LaMelo Ball orchestrating the action, so this is real. Those numbers are not too far from his averages two seasons ago when he finished as a Top 30-ish player. He’s averaging 20.8 points, 2 treys, 8.5 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.5 steals. He averaged 33 minutes off the bench in his first two games back, then started the next two and received 45 and 37 minutes, respectively. After serving his suspension, Bridges was thrust straight into the lineup. Miles Bridges, CHA - PR: 108, CR: 17 - Bridges had off-the-court issues, so there was uncertainty for his status this season. I have excluded some injured players who have huge rank differences, but have only played a few games. It’s not the best method because preseason Yahoo ranks can be flawed, so keep that in mind. But as mentioned, the trends seemed to be more or less in line with each other. There were some minor differences in some of the trends, and I found that the Halo Rise usually said that I got more deep sleep than my Apple Watch did. Still, despite this, I found that the data was mostly in line with what my Apple Watch Series 8 also tracked. Because of that, you generally shouldn’t take what it says as completely accurate, but you can generally rest assured that the tracker works the same from night to night, so you can get a good picture of your trends. It’s really difficult to tell how accurate sleep trackers are, and the Rise is no different. ![]() Generally, I found the data tracked by the Halo Rise to be relatively helpful. I often wake up before my alarm, so it’s not necessarily a feature that I used every morning - but I did like it when I did use it. You’ll set your wakeup time in the app, after which the tracker will slowly wake you up with the orange light bar at the top, which illuminates more and more as you get close to your wakeup time. The Halo Rise also doubles as an alarm clock, and I liked this feature a lot. ![]() Image source: Christian de Looper for BGR It’s important to note that Amazon will automatically start charging you after the six-month trial ends - so make sure to manually cancel it if you don’t want to pay for it. For some, it may be worth the money - considering the fact that, as far as subscriptions go, it’s relatively inexpensive. Through it, you’ll get a suite of other tools, like workout videos, and if you have other Halo trackers, you’ll also get things like body composition, movement scores, and more. The membership is free for the first six months, after which it comes at $3.99 per month. There are other features that can be accessed through a membership. That can be pretty helpful - as it means that the Halo can, in turn, give you recommendations for ways to improve your sleep. Things like the temperature, humidity, and ambient light, all inform your sleep - and they’re all things that the Halo Rise tracks. Image source: Christian de Looper for BGRīut the Halo Rise also tracks other data, about your environment. Using all this data, the tracker gives you an overall score (from 0 to 100) in the morning, and shows you data about your night’s sleep. ![]() Using a combination of machine learning and the aforementioned radar sensor, the Rise is able to track when you fell asleep, how long you were asleep, and your sleep stages during the night. Overall, the Halo Rise is a pretty great sleep tracker, which works with a well-designed and easy-to-use app. Of course, the reasons to buy the Halo Rise have little to do with the basic design - and much more to do with the sleep-tracking features. It should still look fine on most people’s nightstands, though. It’s not a bad-looking device by any means, but the plastic can feel slightly cheap to me at times. Stretched along the round top are also orange LED lights - which illuminate in the morning in the lead-up to your wake up time, and are designed to wake you up more naturally. At the bottom of the head of the device can be found the light, faint clock - which is nicely visible at night without being too bright. The front is what you’ll actually look at most. Those who have upgraded 32-bit code to 64-bit code before know that, even in well-architected code, it takes some work even just to review code to ensure it is correct. Since Visual Assist (VA or VAX) runs as a plugin, in-process, we needed to build a 64-bit version of our plugin DLL. Visual Studio (VS) 2022’s main change-and it’s a significant one-is that it will become a 64-bit process. Personally, I get rather tired of slapping the escape key to cancel IntelliSense multiple times just so I can write out a dotted expression.Visual Assist 2021.3 running inside Visual Studio 2022 Preview 3 Visual Studio Preview ![]() If I am undoing the suggestions I didn't want, yet it insisted on placing, it is counterproductive. It is great for telling you about what exists, but falls on its face when you're trying to write something new. It is an active hindrance for writing/designing APIs. I think I can boil down my gripes with this: IntelliSense is wonderful for consuming APIs. Like Pretzold, I have a love hate relationship with IntelliSense. I've tried the 2022 preview (I have not yet tried RTM), and there are excruciating pauses in the UI for seconds to create a new file in an empty project! But, there are great new features in there, too. And speed of the IDE itself has been dodgy at times, even for brand new projects. And one of the most frustrating things for the longest time was that if you needed a specific C++ compiler major version, you were stuck using the specific VS version that shipped with the compiler (unless you were willing to ditch projects and go with makefiles). With each release, it does somethings better, or new, but others worse, sometimes cripplingly so. In my experience, it's never been a straight forward conclusion of version X is better than the one before. The codebase I contribute to is so much more pleasant to work in with VS 2022. But I won't be looking a gift horse in the mouth. My personal belief is that 64-bit could have been reasonably accomplished many years ago, and it would have been the right call to do it then. * If you commit to something ambitious like going 64-bit only, engineers can meet the challenge and produce something very good * You really don't know what the impact of something is going to be until you actually do it * Marshaling data between processes still requires use of the UI thread in VS in various scenarios, due to a wildly complicated threading model that people mess up all the time * A 64-bit devenv.exe process gives the GC more "room to work with" and do more background GCs rather than foreground GCs, which will pause the UI far less The solution it suggested was for memory-intensive components to move out of process, which is actually what many of them did in VS 2017 and VS 2019.īut the problem with this article is that it was entirely speculation. 64-bit is also objectively slower than 32-bit in terms of CPU time to execute stuff. If you make this 64-bit, pointers double in size and you could observe even more memory usage. Specifically, the articles laid the blame for things like memory usage (which when high enough, causes a foreground GC in the devenv.exe process that freezes your UI), on language services that get all too happy to allocate tons of memory. Yeah, this was from a series of articles that were a great example of managing to be right about all kinds of things but still be wrong in the end. >but among the stated reasons to stick to 32-bits not so long ago, and even one of the main, there was: performance. I know folks on the inside are working to improve this dramatically (they know roughly how to do it), but it's a long road ahead. It's so easy for any little component to mess things up, hang the UI, and make someone have a terrible experience. VS still relies on a very very old COM-based UI model with one of the most convoluted and complex threading models to manage it that I've ever seen. VS 2022 is a fantastic new release (64-bit solves so many perf and user-perceived reliability issues), but there is so much more to go. What the person you're replying to has experienced is very real - I saw it come up again and again and again in reports - and I hope that things improve for them with subsequent releases. ![]() ![]() People should not be surprised by the behavior of their tools, and they should not be frustrated by random freezes or crashes all of the time. So I worked on VS tooling for a few years and I'm proud of what me and my peers achieved, but I don't think this is the right perspective. If you are having to fight with VS, then you may not be using it for one of its main use cases. ![]() I did have an issue telling apart the red and green teams because the cones in my eyes are still on strike, but for the most part, this isn’t a problem. The art direction does a great job of quickly letting the players differentiate units during battle. The speed of the game will take some getting used to, but once players adjust, it feels great. Since the matches are so short, even the “early game” tactics only last a minute or two, really. Maybe you’ll take an early expansion or lead some early aggression, maybe just hang back and build up some Food storage. From there, it’s simply managing your economy how you see fit. Place down or queue a Farm immediately, then scout out the map with your avatar while taking note of the terrain, Gristmill locations, and of course, the enemy’s base. Since maps are randomly generated, the basic early game tends to play out the same way. ![]() This has always been strong advice for any RTS player, and Tooth and Tail forces players’ hands by making them pick six of the available twenty units before entering the battle. There is so much to think about: how balanced do your want your units? How pricey should your units be? Do you want to bring any static defenses? Hero units? I love this aspect of the game because it forces players to have a gameplan before heading into the match. It’s the units that players bring into battle that make all the difference. There are four avatar characters, but they have no impact on gameplay. Perhaps the most interesting concept is that each player chooses six units to head into battle with. Think of them as a cursor buildings will be placed at the avatar’s feet, and in order to issue an attack command, the avatar needs to be close to the desired target. This avatar cannot attack, but they can die. Instead, they control a physical avatar in the world. The biggest difference is that players don’t control some “eye in the sky,” clicking on UI elements and placing buildings where they please. Mechanically, Tooth and Tail will feel comfortable to anyone with RTS experience. Some missions did feel as if they almost needed multiple attempts to succeed at I wasn’t always completely clear about how some objectives were achieved or how the new rules worked, exactly. ![]() By the third act, I was regularly failing and retrying missions even without going for the Heroic objectives. Plus, there are Heroic mission objectives that players can strive for - often requiring top-notch play to achieve. The corkscrews that the missions send your way require critical thinking and planning. |
